Back to TopAll library locations have books on tape, which are professionally read, and are usually abridged. Any library member may borrow books on tape; favourite uses include long drives, housecleaning, and athletics. Talking books, on the other hand, are unabridged, and the authors have waived their royalties from copyright in order that people with sight or physical disabilities may have access to literature. The talking book collection is only available from Accessibility Services at the Central Library, and borrowers must prove their eligibility. This proof can take the form of a Canadian National Institute for the Blind registration number; or a completed application signed by a medical authority certifying that the borrower is unable to read print. Contact Accessibility Services at (519) 255-6770 ext. 4404 for more information. Back to Top |
