This week’s Throwback Thursday Pic is of St. John’s Church located on Sandwich Street in the historic community of Sandwich Towne. This photograph was taken around 1909. Notice the streetcar tracks running down the dirt road at the bottom of the pictures. These tracks were part of the Sandwich, Windsor and Amherstburg Railway. St. John’s Church was built as a log structure in 1807 that was destroyed by American troops during the War of 1812. If was replaced in 1818-19 by a larger more solid structure, which forms part of the current church building. St. John’s Church is still an active Anglican community.
