Archives/Local History

Windsor Public Library has a wide range of resources related to local history. Physical resources are made available to the public in two locations: The Local History Branch is located at 3312 Sandwich Street.  It contains books, microfilm, photographs, newspapers, magazines and a number of other resources related to the history of Windsor and area.  It also contains the library of the Essex County Branch, Ontario Ancestors.

Opening Hours – Archives

Please note that the Municipal Archives will be closed for the period of November 4-November 30 inclusive.

There are NO public open hours and visits to the archives is by appointment only. Call 519-255-6770 x 4414 to arrange an appointment.

Windsor’s Community Archives is located at 85 Pitt Street East.

  • Monday: 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm (CLOSED 4pm to 5pm)
  • Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm (CLOSED 1pm to 2pm)
  • Friday & Saturday: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (CLOSED 1pm to 2pm)
  • Sunday: Closed
