Taking a page from cable television home improvement shows, Seminole Branch (4285 Seminole Street) of Windsor Public Library has scheduled a “big reveal” for Tuesday, December 15 at 10 a.m.
Over the past several weeks library staff has been busy giving the library a dramatic transformation. Constructed in 1953, the 4,092 Sq. Ft. facility has new furniture, new paint and re-aligned shelving, all to make the library experience more meaningful and enjoyable for customers.
Also, a new 3-D printer will be available for library customers to use. For those wanting to learn about 3-D printing, library staff will be presenting programs and training sessions. Thanks go to Ward 5 Councillor Ed Sleiman who designated close to $5,000 of his Ward Funds to purchase the new technology.
“I encourage all regular users, and those who have not taken the time to visit the Seminole Library, to come in and experience the new surroundings, and to learn about and test out this exciting new technology” said Mayor Drew Dilkens.
Public Libraries have assumed an important role in advancing the use of technology and ensuring we all have the skills and competencies needed to thrive in a high-tech world. The advent of 3-D printing allows public libraries to empower people to engage in creative learning and innovation.
“Creating a positive and welcoming experience for library visitors is important,” says WPL CEO Kitty Pope. “It’s our hope that these changes at Seminole will persuade more members of the community to check us out, like what they see and come back often. The 3-D printer opens up many unique programming and learning opportunities.”
Students from David Maxwell P.S. will be on hand for the reveal, together with Mayor Drew Dilkens, Councillor Sleiman, members of the community and library board members and library staff.
Seminole presently has a collection of close to 20,000 adult, young adult and children’s books and other materials and resources.
