An Act of Kindness

A father and young daughter approached the desk asking about the daughter’s account.  They had been receiving calls from the library and weren’t sure what they were about. I had to inform the father that there were overdue charges and that the card was blocked.

The man was visibly upset and unsure how he would be able to pay the overdues. I was able to forgive a few dollars so that the daughter would still be able to use the card. I assured the man the remainder could be paid a little at a time whenever he could manage.  The father and daughter left. There had been a woman waiting behind them in line who overheard the conversation. She very kindly paid the remaining charges on the girl’s account. I’m happy that I was able to witness such an act of kindness between strangers, it truly made my day.
