City Hall – 2018

The City Hall building at 350 City Hall Square was constructed in 1956. Structural issues with the building led to the approval in 2014 of plans to construct a new city hall and demolish the old one.  Construction of the building started in 2016, and the new City Hall, City Hall - 2018with the same street address, was opened to the public May 22, 2018, with the grand opening held May 26, 2018 in conjunction with the annual Mayor’s walk.

The new City Hall building deliberately exemplifies a building where municipal business is efficiently conducted while also representing Windsor specifically. The layout is designed with the customer in mind, and citizens can view portraits of all the Mayors in Windsor’s history, along with a brief biography of each, allowing for a captivating glimpse of the history of our leaders and our city. The grand opening was held May 26, 2018 and included a celebration for the city’s 126th birthday.

The building was designed by architects Moriyama & Teshima and Windsor’s Architecttura Inc to be an efficient, practical, functional, customer-service-oriented facility that efficiently serves the people of Windsor, with an eye to green initiatives and economy. A main-floor service area will enhance public service, creating efficiencies among departments for users.  Additionally, the council chambers are wide open and visible through a glass wall and seats 180 people.  The old City Hall Building is expected to be demolished some time in 2018.
