D.A. Lockhart
D.A. Lockhart is a Lenape author, editor, and publisher based in Waawiiyaatanong (also known as Windsor, Ontario).
A natural storyteller, his work reflects his passion for telling 
the stories of those who have been misunderstood or excluded.
A prolific writer, since 2008 Lockhart has published eight books with five presses including Devil in the Woods (Brick Books, 2019); Bearmen Descend Upon Gimli (Frontenac House, 2021); and Breaking Right (Porcupine’s Quill, 2021) and appeared in countless journals or anthologies. He earned degrees from Trent University, Montana State University, and Indiana University where he held the prestigious Neal-Marshall Graduate Fellowship in Creative Writing.
Lockhart’s work has been supported by numerous Canada Council for the Arts grants and Ontario Arts Council grants for his fiction and his poetry. He has also been repeatedly
nominated for the Pushcart Prize.
In 2013, he co-founded Urban Farmhouse Press (see The Famous Windsorite entry for UFP) which publishes writers from all over North America as well as offering writer’s workshops. He is the poetry editor for the Windsor review and has been since 2019.
Lockhart is a member of the Turtle clan of the Morovian of the Thames first nation. He currently resides in Windsor with his young family and is a vital voice in the Windsor arts community.
