Dave Merheje
Comedian
Dave Merheje is thought to be one of the most original stand-up acts on the comedy scene today. His act has gained a loyal following across North America with his “no fear” approach on stage and a comedy style best described as in-your-face funny. Tapping into his Middle-Eastern roots, Dave’s perspective on the world is one like no other. He has made multiple appearances at the Just for Laughs Festival, has won several prestigious comedy awards (Just For Laugh’s 2011 Homegrown Comic Competition and NOW Magazine’s 2011 Best of Toronto Award for Best Male Stand-up), and a Juno award (2019) for Comedy Album of the Year. He can also be seen as a cast member on CBC’s Mr. D.
Merheje was born and raised in Windsor. As part of a large Lebanese family, Merheje draws on the “expressive culture” for much of his comedic material. He performed his first stand-up routine at Yuk Yuk’s comedy club in Windsor, although he doesn’t remember it as being much of a success. He took advantage of Windsor’s proximity to Detroit, and would often cross the border to hone his stage prowess in the spotlight of Detroit’s competitive comedy clubs and open mic rooms.
Dave Merheje was born in Windsor July 21, 1980. He now lives in Toronto and travels all across North America filming and performing live shows.
