Heidi L.M. Jacobs
Heidi L.M. Jacobs is a Canadian author and winner of the Stephen Leacock prize.
Born and raised in Edmonton, Ms Jacobs moved to Windsor after graduation to work at the University of Windsor’s Leddy Library. She completed her BA and MA in English at The University of Alberta, PhD in English at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and her MLIS at Western University.
Ms Jacobs is a prolific writer of both fiction and non-fiction and recently her debut novel, Molly of the Mall: Literary Lass and Purveyor of Fine Footwear.in 2019. A humorous tale about a young woman coming of age in the 1990s. The protagonist has literary ambitions but works at the West Edmonton Mall, famous for its peacocks, waterslides and indoor rollercoasters. In true comic form, the novel delights as Molly perseveres, writing while selling shoes and learning to appreciate her surroundings and the people around her.
Jacobs’ debut novel received numerous accolades, including the 2020, $15,000 Stephen Leacock prize. The medal is one of Canada’s oldest prizes and honours what is considered by the Canadian publishing industry, as Canada’s best work of literary humour published in the previous year.
Jacob’s second book, a collaboration with her husband Dale, hit the book shelves on March 17, 2021. 100 Miles of Baseball: Fifty Games, One Summer tells the story of how 2 fans of baseball re-discovered the joy of the game.
