Jack Scott
Song writer, musician
Jack Scott was born 24 January 1936 in Windsor Ontario. Scott comes from an Italian-American family and was originally named Giovanni Scafone Jr. At the age of ten, Scott and his family moved from Windsor to Hazel Park, Michigan. At the age of eighteen, Scott decided to make his career in the music world. He was a member of Southern Drifters until 1957 when ABC-Paramount Records signed him as a solo artist under their label, where he recorded two singles.
In 1958, Scott signed with Carlton Records, and released his singles Leroy and My True Love, with Leroy hitting #11 and My True Love hitting #3. Though Scott lived in Michigan, he kept his Canadian roots by using the Windsor-based group The Chantones as the back-up band for several recordings.
Though Scott’s music was originally in the style of early rock and roll, by the 1960s Scott was creating music that was more country and bluegrass than rock and roll. Scott also wrote most of the music he recorded.
In 2004, Scott was inducted into The Michigan Country Hall of Fame, and in 2006 he was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. In 2011 Scott was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, Radio Era.
