A good assortment of history buffs, curious library visitors, supporters and admirers of writer Patrick Brode, attended last night’s launch of BORDER CITIES POWERHOUSE: THE RISE OF WINDSOR, 1900-1945. Although this nonfiction book focuses on developments in this area during the first half of the twentieth century, Mr. Brode argued the changes that occured in our city reflected Canada’s metamorphosis as a whole as it transitioned from a country of rural and small town communities to an urban, industrial and broad-based economy. But more than just a collection of facts and numbers about population growth, development dollars spent and changes in income levels, BORDER CITIES POWERHOUSE also traces social upheavals and notable personalities. Gordon McGregor (1873 – 1922) is one such person Mr. Brode feels deserves more credit for his contribution to Windsor.
