Palimpsest Press is a Canadian book publishing company founded in 2000 by Dawn Marie Kresan. This company has published over 58 authors in poetry, literary fiction, and
non-fiction. Palimpsest Press literary fiction titles focus on magic realism, surrealism, and explorations of the everyday. Palimpsest focusses on poetry that displays technical mastery, precise language, and an authentic voice, and well-crafted fiction that is rich in imagery, with a focus on character development. Their nonfiction titles include essays and memoirs written by poets, and books that examine Canadian poetry and the Canadian cultural landscape.
Aimee Parent-Dunn became owner of Palimpsest Press in 2012 and moved its operations to Windsor, Ontario. By publishing in a wide variety of formats, Palimpsest has attracted many critically acclaimed and award-winning authors such as Aislinn Hunter, Christian Bök, Elisabeth Harvor, Kate Braid, Shawna Lemay, and Steven Heighton.
Palimpsest poetry titles have been longlisted for The ReLit Awards; Shawna Lemay’s Calm Things was nominated for the Wilfred Eggleston Award for Nonfiction. In 2010, Ariel Gordon won the John Hirsch Award for most Promising Manitoba Writer. In 2011, Gordon’s book Hump was nominated for the Eileen McTavish Sykes Award for Best First Book and won the Aqua Books Lansdowne Prize for Poetry. In the spring of 2018, Palimpsest Press launched the Anstruther Press Imprint, which features poetry books edited by Jim Johnstone.
Palimpsest Press’ mandate is to publish high quality work in beautifully designed and collectible volumes. Particular attention is paid to book design and the quality of paper. Their objectives are to seek out the best new and established voices in Canadian literature and to ensure their trade books are well-distributed and kept in print. Committed to maintaining high editorial and production standards, Palimpsest Press promotes work published through readings and events as small presses help build and strengthen literary communities.
