Who we are
More than 100 years ago, a substantial gift from industrialist Andrew Carnegie made it possible to build the first Carnegie Library in Canada. Since then, the Windsor Public Library has grown with the intellectual and educational needs of our city to include nine branch libraries, the Central Library, Windsor’s Community Museum and Windsor’s Community Archives. Your support is needed to continue building on this foundation of excellence for future generations of Windsorites. Children, adults, seniors and the business community alike benefit from the wide range of library resources available.
At the Windsor Public Library, we are both deeply rooted in the community and rapidly evolving with it into the 21st century. We will continue to be an award-winning innovator on behalf of our community, making sure our residents have universal access to the knowledge they need to be productive citizens in the information age.
The Windsor Public Library Foundation was established to financially support the Library. The Library Foundation was formed in 1998 in partnership with the Great Windsor Community Foundation.
The Windsor Public Library Foundation is 100% volunteer-driven, which means every dollar of your donation will be used to supply the library. We will work together with you and your lawyer, accountant, life insurance agent or financial planner to establish which type of gift best suits your needs.
Funding is needed for both short-term and long-term projects. You might wish to establish an endowment fund to support children’s materials, literacy or special needs. Gifts of cash or securities will help to build new libraries for our growing population.
Donations to the Library Foundation offer significant tax benefits to donors. There is a variety of ways to make a gift to the Library Foundation, such as bequests and gifts of property or life insurance policies.

Our Mission
The Windsor Public Library Foundation evolved in 1998 as a non-profit charitable organization with the hopes of seeking private sector support for the Windsor Public Library system, with its encompassing nine branches and Centyral Library. The Foundation seeks contributions to support the growth of new libraries and facility enhancement, new technology, literacy programs, innovative resources, disability access to all services, and special programs, such as author visits and summer children’s activities. In general, the Foundation is driven to expanding services that will provide a greater access to the world of learning for Windsor’s continually growing population. The Library Foundation’s role is to provide additional funding for projects that complement, but do not replace, the City of Windsor’s continued responsibility for overseeing the effective operation of the Windsor Public Library.
