Windsor Public Library is pleased to announce the launch on September 14 of a new online archival resource visualizing the connections between Windsor bands and musicians throughout the years: windsormusictangle.com. The project is a spinoff of the Windsor Rock Wall at Phog Lounge begun by Tom Lucier in 2011.
The web site will provide users with an opportunity to reminisce about bands they enjoyed seeing live, bands they played with, bands they listened to via cassettes, LPs, 45s, CDs, mp3s and local radio. In addition, users have the opportunity to see current bands and explore areas of the Tangle with which they may not be familiar, leading to new discoveries about the Windsor music scene.
Windsor Music Tangle’s Lead Researcher & Creative Director, Michelle Soullière, has been collecting data from local live musicians and live music fans over the past six months to build the “bandology.”
“Windsor Public Library’s new online resource pays homage to the amazing musical talent we have in our city today, and also dating back about 80 years,” says Soullière. “The live music scene in Windsor is something to be proud of.”
In addition to the launch of the web site, Soullière is gearing up to launch a promotional campaign this Fall including prize packs featuring buttons, guitar picks, and t-shirts with nostalgic imagery from the local music scene. These will be given away free to local businesses, organizations, project participants and the community at large.
A series of documentary-style videos produced by Eric Boucher are also in the works for a Fall 2013 release. The videos follow the creation of the project and include interviews from locals connected to the Windsor Music Tangle, snippets of personal local music collections and more. Keep an eye out for these videos on various social media platforms including Windsor Music Tangle’s Facebook Page at facebook.com/windsormusictangle.
Funded by the Government of Ontario, Windsor Music Tangle is a collaborative project of Windsor Public Library, Phog Lounge, Spotvin Inc., Eric Boucher and members of the local live music community in Windsor.
